As a kind of floor covering that features “spring”, resilient flooring is widely used in senior houses with its characteristics of being durable, non-slippery, soundproof, fireproof and eco-friendly. According to statistics, the market share of resilient flooring in China keeps an upward trend these years: the year 2016 recorded a total output of 120.73 million m2, output value of 5.43 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 24.46%. Since China is entering an ageing period, the increasing use of resilient flooring in senior housing, elderly care establishments and home renovation will mean a huge market for this product.
Chinese population is aging rapidly in recent years. The increasing demands for elderly care services, however, cannot be satisfied due to insufficient elderly care resources and low-level application of information technologies in this area. The development of internet has helped boost the market of smart elderly care products such as telemedicine, health monitoring devices, wearable devices and patient monitoring devices which are gradually used in the elderly care of individuals, families, communities and establishments. As for policy, the three Ministries issued ‘Action Plan for Developing Intelligent Health and Elderly Care Industry (2017-2020)’ to promote the growth of these industries. In light of the above, there are promising prospects for intelligent senior care industry with application of technologies like Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data and intelligent hardware.
In recent years, leading real-estate enterprises like Vanke, Poly, Sino-Ocean, Evergrande and Greenland all set foot in senior housing market, which is indicating that the momentum of rapid dividend growth gained from traditional development pattern is declining and the market needs transformation and upgrading to create new growth points.
At the end of last year, General Office of the State Council issued Opinions about Fully Opening Elderly Care Market and Improving Elderly Care Services which pointed out that the senior care industry is going to be a new driving force of economic and social development by 2020. From the beginning of 2017, local governments enact policies to get the elderly care market in China fully opened up, strengthen its supply capability in terms of elderly care services and products as well as to adjust the supplying structure, all of which are favorable to the senior care industry by pouring into it with new vitality.

As a response to the MOU on Strengthening the Elderly Care Service, this seminar is held to solve the medical and elderly care issues raised by the aging population, bring the “Healthy China” strategy into practice and promote the construction of healthy cities under the plan of “Healthy Guangdong Province”.
In this March, the Announcement about the Special Project of Improving Services in Elderly Homes was jointly issued by six governmental departments including the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the Office of National Committee on Aging. The Announcement requires, up to the end of 2017, over half of the nation’s elderly homes to provide medical & health services in variable ways for the elderly living there, and at the same time, to hire rehabilitation therapists to help the aged use fitness equipment and rehab and assistive devices. In addition, elderly homes should apply non-drug interventions to help the elder patients recover from dementia. As a matter of fact, the country is seeing an increasing number of senior citizens and aged persons with disabilities along with an aging population. Thus, there is a rising demand for health and elderly care services, which also leaves the industries of medical equipment and rehab and assistive devices a large market place.
