A Taiwan-funded nursing home, Pingtan Letianlun Nursing Home, will soon begin construction in Pingtan, Fujian province, according to the city's bureau of social affairs. The facility is expected to be completed within three months.
The first nursing home of its kind to be built in Pingtan, the 5,600-square-meter facility in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone will offer a combination of medical care and elderly care and will contain an outpatient department, a 100-bed inpatient department, an emergency room and an inspection department as well as other facilities specially made for the elderly such as a wheelchair accessible elevator.
According to He Ningxia, president of Pingtan Letianlun Nursing Home, the new nursing home will give Pingtan's elderly residents access to a greater variety of services such as a secure environment, health management and family care at the press of a button.
The island city's social care services have struggled to keep up with the area's increasingly aging population in recent years. More than 61,000 of the city's 400,000 residents are now over the age of 60, but there are still few nursing homes in the city.
According to Weng Bing from Pingtan's bureau of social affairs, the Taiwan-funded center could help raise standards across the city's entire social care sector.
"Taiwan has an advanced pension service management philosophy and business model, and introducing the nursing home constructed by a Taiwan-funded company is helpful to the healthy development of the elderly service industry in Pingtan," said Weng.
Pingtan Letianlun Nursing Home shall be completely designed and maintained in accordance with Taiwan pension service standards, Weng added.
The nursing home shall also set up electronic files for every elderly patient to record and track their health condition, providing a customized service for Pingtan residents, according to He.
